August Focus: Detoxification

Ash Kayser – Naturopath

“Detox” is one of those wellness words that can mean almost anything – from juice cleanses and restrictive diets to supplements promising to flush out toxins. But your body already has an incredible detoxification system working around the clock!

Your liver, kidneys, gut, lungs and skin all play important roles in processing and removing waste from the body. Rather than relying on a short-term cleanse, supporting these systems consistently is often a much more sustainable approach.

When one or more of these systems are under strain (for example, through poor nutrition, excessive alcohol, constipation, dehydration, hormonal changes or ongoing stress…) elimination may not be as efficient as it could be. This can sometimes show up as gut issues (like constipation, bloating…) headaches, fatigue, skin breakouts, feeling sluggish or generally not quite yourself. These symptoms aren’t necessarily a sign that you need a detox, but they can be clues that your body’s underlying systems need more support.

Gentle places to start include:

  • Including more liver loving foods (cruciferous veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprout, and beetroot)
  • Adequately hydrating (water, herbal teas…)
  • Moving your body in some way that you enjoy

A naturopathic consultation can help us look at the bigger picture (including your diet, gut health, hormones, nutrient status, stress and lifestyle) and work out where your individual support is best placed. So if you’re wanting to understand how to best support your body & feel your best, reach out for more support.

When life gets busy, it’s often our own health that gets pushed aside. We tend to ignore those little aches, tight muscles, or nagging stiffness, hoping they’ll simply go away – unfortunately, they often don’t.

Regular remedial massage and myotherapy is not just for treating pain—they’re an important part of maintaining your overall health and wellbeing. By addressing muscle tension, improving movement, and identifying problem areas early, these treatments can help prevent minor issues from becoming chronic conditions.

Whether you’re working long hours at a desk, lifting and carrying at work, training for sport, or simply keeping up with everyday life, your body experiences physical stress every day. Regular treatment can help:

  • Reduce muscle tension and stiffness.
  • Improve flexibility and mobility.
  • Support recovery after work, exercise, or injury.
  • Improve posture and movement patterns.
  • Help manage headaches, neck pain, and back pain.
  • Keep you moving comfortably and doing the things you enjoy.

Think of remedial massage and myotherapy as preventative maintenance for your body. Looking after your muscles now can help you stay active, comfortable, and healthier in the long run.

If it’s been a few weeks—or even a few months—since your last appointment, consider making time for yourself. Your body does an incredible job every day. Giving it regular care is one of the best investments you can make in your long-term health.

We look forward to helping you feel your best. Give us a Facebook like @Action Remedial Massage & Myotherapy.
